The Eastern Coatings Show (ECS) is set for May 15-17 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Hosted by the Eastern Coatings Federation – the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology, the New England Society for Coatings Technology and the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association – this show is intended to offer educational and technical presentations to increase understanding of the theory, science, manufacturing and marketing of coatings.

The line-up for the conference features 46 speakers and three concurrent tracks covering UV curing, resin technology, additives, colors and pigments, pigment dispersions, functional fillers, and resins. In addition, the University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and Higher Performance Materials will present an abbreviated short course on new coatings applications. The course is designed for coatings chemists and formulators interested in new applications for waterborne coatings. This four-hour short course provides an introduction to the technology of waterborne coatings, with an emphasis on the challenges encountered in converting existing solventborne coating systems to water. It consists of a series of lectures organized around various popular coatings types, including acrylic latex, polyester/alkyd, twocomponent polyurethane, polyurethane dispersion, epoxy and silicone. Additional topics covered will include the use of additives, pigments, pigment dispersions and application methods for waterborne coatings.

“We are very pleased to have The University of Southern Mississippi participate in the ECS,” said David White, Technical Committee Chair of ESC 2017. “This course will provide a great opportunity for people new to the industry to learn about water-based technology.” Robson Storey, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor, University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and Higher Performance Materials, will serve as program coordinator for the course.

To further industry innovation, the Pflaumer Honors for Innovation Awards for new coating technology will also be presented at the ECS. Pflaumer Brothers, of Ewing, New Jersey, is sponsoring the awards to honor and recognize the top two technical papers showing the most outstanding technical innovation. “We are excited about being the sponsor for the third Eastern Coatings Show, and give these awards for papers showing outstanding technical innovation,” said Harley McNair, President of Pflaumer Brothers. The Show features up to 150 raw material, packaging and equipment suppliers exhibiting their latest products and technologies.

On Monday, May 15 (the day before the show opens), the Eastern Coatings Federation is hosting a golf outing at the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey, as well as an Opening Reception at Harrah’s Poolside that evening.
