General Air Products (GAP) announced two major milestones for its Vapor Pipe Shield technology this spring, including a 2025 Corrosion Innovation of the Year Award and new data from an ongoing third-party corrosion study. The patented system, which uses Cortec® Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VpCI®), is designed to protect dry and pre-action fire sprinkler systems.
The AMPP Annual Conference + Expo recognized the Vapor Pipe Shield during an April ceremony in Nashville. The annual awards, presented by Materials Performance magazine, highlight significant new technologies in corrosion prevention.
In May, GAP released 18-month results from a five-year study in partnership with Corrosion Laboratories, Inc. Carbon steel samples treated with VpCI® showed corrosion rates 14 times lower than those using nitrogen and 117 times lower than those using compressed air. These results build on earlier one-year data showing VpCI® to be up to seven times more effective than nitrogen.
