New Partnership Targets Cleaner Shipping Operations

Jotun announced a commercial agreement with Italian ship owner Ignazio Messina & C. for the company’s Hull Skating Solutions (HSS). The vessel Jolly Rosa will use the HSS package, which includes the HullSkater robot, proactive hull cleaning, coatings, and performance monitoring.
“As a company with a long history of operating in complex trades, we are constantly seeking innovations that benefit our operations in the long run,” said Andrea Gais, CEO of Gruppo Messina Spa. “Jotun’s HSS will help us reach environmental sustainability targets and improve hull performance.”
Jotun noted the systems applied across Messina’s fleet are expected to avoid approximately 11,800 tons of CO₂ emissions annually compared with market averages. The partnership builds on Jotun’s broader Clean Shipping Commitment, which helped customers avoid 11.1 million tons of CO₂ in 2024 alone, verified by DNV.
“Hull performance management is getting ever more important for fleet efficiency and decarbonization,” said Gais. “Together with digital tools and monitoring systems, Jotun solutions will support our journey.”
