In a world that is increasingly focused on the bottom line, Powder Coating 2004, the only conference and trade show in North America devoted to powder coating, will focus on what powder coating can do to help attendees meet their goals. In both the technical conference program and on the show floor, where more than 200 exhibitors will display their products and services, attendees will constantly be reminded that powder coating can reduce rejects, save money, coat many substrates, allow for quick color change, improve productivity, provide a high-quality, long-lasting finish, and eliminate solvents and waste disposal.

Now more than ever, finishers are fighting to stay competitive at home and abroad while ensuring they are turning profits for their companies. Powder Coating 2004, scheduled for September 21-23 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC, is the place where finishers can see the latest technological developments first hand, learn from experts in the conference sessions, participate in plant tours to see powder coating in action and visit with the suppliers of powder coating equipment, materials and related supplies.

Powder Coating 2004's conference program is packed with presentations on new and growing areas for powder coating, such as aluminum extrusions, metallics and powder coating on wood, while also offering the basic information finishers will need to know if they are just starting to think about using powder coating. Certain to be a big draw is the keynote presentation: "The Harley-Davidson Turnaround Story" by retired vice president of Harley-Davidson, Clyde Fessler. Fessler will open the Powder Coating 2004 Conference with his address on Tuesday morning, September 21. Attendees who preregister for the conference or keynote presentation prior to August 7 will be eligible for a drawing to join Fessler for breakfast prior to his presentation.

Additionally, all those who preregister for the full conference prior to August 27 will receive a coupon for a free copy of PCI's third edition of Powder Coating: The Complete Finisher's Handbook. The handbook has been updated and will be published just prior to the show.

For finishers looking for ways to improve their current powder coating system's efficiencies or who are interested in making a switch to powder coating, Powder Coating 2004 is the place to be. It's the only place the entire powder coating industry will gather in one location this year.

Attendees can visit www.pcishow.com for complete conference programming details, an up-to-date list of exhibitors and to register.

Plant Tours

Blum Inc.

Blum Inc. manufactures cabinet and furniture hardware along with hinges and drawer runners. During this tour, attendees will have the opportunity to see the entire line, including pretreatment washers, ovens, booths and overhead conveyors. Powder application equipment, supplied by ITW Gema, includes PG Series spray guns mounted on reciprocators.

ADC Finishing Inc.

ADC is a custom coater for OEMs. This tour will include a visit to its recently installed new powder coating line that utilizes an existing five-stage iron phosphate washer followed by an MS fast-color-change, automatic, plc-controlled powder booth. This system also utilizes a roof-mounted curing oven. DuBois Industrial Chemicals supplies pretreatment chemicals to ADC, and Sherwin-Williams and DuPont Powder Coatings supply the powder coatings.

Powder Coating Services Inc.

This contract metal finishing shop has two conveyorized powder coating lines. The first has a five-stage iron phosphate washer with a gas convection oven with electric infrared. The second has a seven-stage iron phosphate washer with laser scale removal. The second line also has a gas convection oven. Nordson Corp. and Wagner Systems supplied the powder spray application equipment. Coral Chemical provides the pretreatment, and a variety of suppliers provide powder coating materials. Powder Coating Services also has an electrocoating line and its own waste treatment facility, which will be seen on this tour.
