King Industries, Inc. is introducing new polyester and urethane diol resin modifiers, rust and corrosion inhibitors and several new catalysts at ECS Stand 1-642.

K-FLEX® XM-359 is a new polyester polyol developed to offer high optical clarity with improved adhesion, flexibility and lower VOC, and to prevent yellowing from the interaction that can occur with UV absorbers in isocyanate and amino-formaldehyde crosslinked systems. K-FLEX XM-359 was featured in a technical paper, “Novel Polyester Diols for High-Performance Coatings” at the Congress on March 18.

K-FLEX XM-366 is a new low-viscosity, 100%-active, saturated, aliphatic polyester diol with primary hydroxyl groups. This resin modifier is designed for use in isocyanate and amino-formaldehyde crosslinked systems to reduce VOC and increase flexibility.

King’s new urethane diols have been developed for waterborne automotive primers, where they offer improved mechanical properties including superior flexibility, good flow and leveling, combined with improved adhesion, salt spray, overbake and stone chip resistance. These new products are based on King’s K-FLEX UD-350W, an aqueous solution of an aliphatic, low-molecular-weight urethane diol oligomer used as a modifier for amino-crosslinked water-soluble and emulsified acrylic, alkyd, urethane and polyester resins.

Expansion of King’s non-tin, mercury-free catalysts for urethanes include new K-KAT® XK-614, a versatile alternative to DBTDL for waterborne 2K and blocked NCO coatings, as well as new K-KAT XK-640, a bismuth carboxylate catalyst that was designed to provide excellent hydrolytic stability.

New NACORR® XR-417 is a rust and corrosion inhibitor based on a metal complex specifically designed to improve the resistance properties of direct-to-metal coatings. Synergistic with select anti-corrosive pigments, XR-417 is particularly effective in waterborne coatings due to its excellent dispersability. New NACORR 1389, based on an aromatic sulfonic acid/carboxylate complex, is effective in most types of waterborne and solvent-based air-dry and thermoset coatings.

King is also featuring several new catalysts for amino thermoset coatings developed for specific performance criteria. New NACURE® XC-269 was developed for BPA-free can coatings and the low-temperature cure of coil coatings. NACURE XC-296 was specifically designed for use in epoxy-free can coatings. It is especially effective on aluminum substrates, offering excellent processing resistance. Rounding out new catalyst introductions for amino thermoset systems is new NACURE XC-134, a covalently blocked catalyst for higher bake amino-crosslinked systems such as coil coatings and metal decorating.

King is also introducing K-STAY® 511 and K-STAY 555, two new rheology modifiers for pigmented solventborne coatings offering excellent pigment suspension and sag control.
