Bayer MaterialScience Plans New Production Facility

LEVERKUSEN, Germany - Bayer MaterialScience plans to construct a new world-scale production facility for the coating raw material isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) at its integrated site in Shanghai, China. The planned investment volume is EUR 65 million. The inauguration of the plant is scheduled for 2015.

The project is part of the company’s comprehensive investment program with a total volume of approximately EUR one billion for the expansion of its production capacities in China. With this, the total investment of Bayer MaterialScience in China is increased to more than EUR three billion. IPDI is used as a raw material primarily in high-grade polyurethane coatings for applications such as automotive finishing.
