SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has rescheduled a governing board meeting to consider revisions to the agency’s suggested control measure (SCM) on VOCs in architectural coatings. The meeting date has been postponed to June 22 to allow the agency to complete an environmental impact report required as part of the rulemaking process.
The current draft version of the SCM proposes a range of VOC limits with effective dates of Jan. 1, 2004 for industrial maintenance coatings and Jan. 1, 2003, for other coatings categories. The SCM is essentially a model rule that can be used as a guide for local and regional air-quality districts in the state in the development of regulations on VOCs in architectural and industrial maintenance coatings. The SCM does not directly regulate coatings products. More information on the proposed SCM is available on the CARB Web site at www.arb.ca.gov/arch/recent.htm.
