In March 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a supplemental proposal to revise the definition of solid waste to encourage the recycling of more hazardous secondary materials. The proposed new definition of solid waste would exclude wastes that are recycled from regulation as a hazardous waste and could facilitate more recycling of electroplating waste water treatment sludge, i.e., the listed hazardous waste, F006. The National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF) is preparing comments on the proposed rule to submit on behalf of the surface finishing industry.
