Industry Comments Being Prepared on EPA's New Definition of Solid Waste - Posted 6/20/07

In March 2007, EPA issued a supplemental proposal to revise the definition of solid waste to encourage the recycling of more hazardous secondary materials. The NASF is preparing comments on the proposed rule to submit on behalf of the surface finishing industry.

In March 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a supplemental proposal to revise the definition of solid waste to encourage the recycling of more hazardous secondary materials. The proposed new definition of solid waste would exclude wastes that are recycled from regulation as a hazardous waste and could facilitate more recycling of electroplating waste water treatment sludge, i.e., the listed hazardous waste, F006. The National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF) is preparing comments on the proposed rule to submit on behalf of the surface finishing industry. Comments on the proposed rule are due on June 25, 2007. For more information on the new definition of solid waste, visit the NASF website at www.nasf.org.
