Hydrophobically Modified Mixed Metal Oxide Additives for Chemical Agent-Resistant Powder Coatings
Chemical Agent-Resistant Coatings (CARC) used for military applications are predominantly liquid based. Environmental and worker safety concerns on using solvents and reactive resin intermediates are driving the military to seek for safer alternatives. Powder coating is a safer alternative to liquid coatings; however, most of the powder coating formulations do not have adequate chemical agent resistance.
Battelle has recently made mixed metal oxides and studied their performance in a powder coating formulation. In this presentation, we will describe the synthesis and characterization of the novel additive. We will also present the coating formulation and performance of the coatings.
