Coatings based on 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD)polyester polyols have shown significant enhancement in outdoor durability and a better balance of hardness and flexibility when compared to traditional resins used in industrial and automotive coatings. Attendees of the American Coatings Conference will get an overview of this research during a presentation Wednesday, April 13, 12:30 pm-1pm. Dr. Linqian Feng, an advanced research scientist in coating application development at Eastman Chemical Company, will speak about the findings along with one of her co-authors, Dr. Li-piin Sung of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The talk will also cover some of the recent efforts at Eastman and NIST to correlate results from accelerated weathering test methods with data from conventional outdoor Florida weathering techniques.
Feng’s presentation puts the spotlight on TMCD polyester polyols, a product originating from Eastman’s rich history of polyester design and innovation, and one of the newest additions to Eastman’s extensive portfolio of products for architectural, transportation and other coatings end markets. The Eastman portfolio of coatings technologies recently expanded with the acquisition of Taminco Corporation.
