Study Finds That Regulations Drive Market for Abrasion-Resistant Coatings
DUBLIN — Research and Markets has released a new report that lists a major factor driving the market for abrasion-resistant coatings to be stringent EU and U.S. regulations regarding VOC emissions. Other major drivers include the favorable properties of abrasion-resistance coatings, such as fast curing time and high temperature resistance. The demand for abrasion-resistant coatings is also increasing from developing economies such as China, India and Indonesia.
In the power generation sector, abrasion-resistant coatings are used on wind turbine blades, concrete cooling towers, valves, containment vessels, nuclear components, generators, dam structures, and turbines. These coatings improve UV stability and offer minimal dirt pick-up, excellent abrasion resistance, and low reflectivity. Abrasion-resistant coatings are used to protect offshore wind turbines by protecting blades from the harsh environment in the sea.
