Nano Scratch/Mar Testing of Paint on Metal Substrates
Coatings are used on cars, walls, appliances and virtually everything that needs protection – or simply for aesthetic purposes. Paints that are meant for the protection of the underlying substrate often have chemicals or additives that are fire preventative, corrosion inhibitive, or prevent the coating from fading or cracking.
Often the paint used for aesthetic purposes comes in various colors, but may not necessarily be meant for the protection of its substrate or for a long lifetime. Nevertheless, all paint suffers some weathering effects over time. Paint weathering can often change the properties of the coating from what the manufacturers intended, and it can chip quicker, peel off with heat, lose color or crack. Coatings are tailored to meet different requirements for different end uses and for individual clients.
