LANXESS Honored for World Environment Day Youth Education

LANXESS Corp., a leading specialty chemicals company with North American headquarters in Pittsburgh, won a Communitas Award for its work around World Environment Day to educate Pittsburgh’s youth about global water issues.

PITTSBURGH – LANXESS Corp., a leading specialty chemicals company with North American headquarters in Pittsburgh, won a Communitas Award for its work around World Environment Day to educate Pittsburgh’s youth about global water issues. The Communitas Awards recognize specific programs involving volunteerism, philanthropy or ethical, sustainable business practices.

The award was presented to LANXESS for a number of efforts the company helped spearhead, designed to educate local students about the role water plays globally and show them how careers in science can change the world.

LANXESS held “The Elements of Exploration” event on the RiverQuest Explorer boat, docked on the Allegheny River, for a day of science exploration. The free event allowed children to explore “green” solutions and take on the role of scientist by engaging in hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Additionally, LANXESS served as a primary sponsor for the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh’s World Environment Day Student Summit, helping to further critical thinking among high school students about global water issues through interactive work sessions and panel discussions with business, education and non-profit leaders who shared their knowledge and perspectives on global water concerns.

LANXESS also sponsored the Water Matters! Global Water Conference and worked with local Pittsburgh universities to facilitate student participation at the conference.

“The Communitas Award represents LANXESS’ commitment to youth education, helping shape those who can have the greatest impact on the future of water conservation and treatment,” said Randy Dearth, President and CEO, LANXESS Corp. “We used World Environment Day as a platform to bring important environmental issues to the forefront and educate the community, especially our youth, about the role that science can play in addressing them.”

The Communitas Awards are an outgrowth of the pro bono recognition program of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).
