MONTREAL, Canada - Atrion International announced that Scott Harter, Senior Manager of Regulatory Services, has been honored by PPG Industries for his work on PPG’s Global Product Stewardship Initiative. He received the PPG EHS Gold Award, PPG's highest environmental, health and safety award. Harter was the first external recipient of the award, which is typically reserved for employees of PPG.

 

PPG Industries’ Global Product Stewardship (GPS) project assures that PPG products are developed, produced, distributed, used and disposed of in a safe and environmentally sound manner and advises customers on their safe use and handling. EHS concerns are being integrated into all of PPG business activities. Atrion's product compliance solutions form the software and data-content engine of PPG's GPS system.

 

In January 2006, Harter was assigned as the Atrion Project Manager to PPG for its worldwide implementation of Atrion solutions and for providing certain regulatory services. Harter has engaged and managed various Atrion resources but has also routinely contributed directly as a subject matter expert in regulatory requirements for global product stewardship and user functionality of the Atrion systems.

 

"Scott Harter's contributions have been instrumental in implementing our GPS system in Australia, Asia, North America and most recently New Zealand. Implementation services provided by Atrion were below budget for each region. The European implementation is in progress," said Mark Howe, Director of Product Compliance & Raw Material Management at PPG. "The New Zealand implementation was of major significance, as New Zealand poses some of the most complex and restrictive environmental regulations on the planet. We are well positioned to manage our risk during this period of rapidly changing regulatory landscape that includes the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and REACH in Europe."
