Dynasylan Hydrosil™ and SIVO®-SOL technologies are designed to save time and money while protecting the environment. Using Dynasylan® technology, Evonik Degussa Corporation (EDC) has developed two new solvent-free, water-based systems for metal protection. Dynasylan Hydrosil™ and SIVO®-SOL technologies are designed to save time and money while protecting the environment. They reportedly provide maximum corrosion protection for valuable metal products and simplify the manufacturing process.

The environmentally friendly, water-based systems offer an extremely low volatile organic compound (VOC) level and maximum corrosion protection without the use of chromium VI in the system. The new products offer protection against abrasion and chemicals and also provide excellent adhesion of coatings.

While the use of Cr (VI) in corrosion treatment formulations is still widespread, finishing professionals have been demanding more environmental accountability, according to Dr. Ioannou. Evonik’s new products are designed to offer performance similar to Cr (VI) but without affecting the environment. The products can be applied in a thin layer, which reduces material usage. This reduction is especially important to the aerospace industry, where weight issues are an important factor.

The technology can be used as a primers or protective coating for electroplating, galvanizing, coil and sheet coatings, powder coatings, fasteners, automotive parts, finished sealers, steel furniture, appliances and other industries.
