Covestro announced it has entered into a collaboration with Heraeus to develop antimicrobial coatings that address growing demand for surface protection across industries. The companies said the partnership combines Covestro’s polymer and coatings expertise with Heraeus’s technologies in functional surfaces.
The project will focus on developing coatings that provide antimicrobial performance while meeting durability, aesthetic, and environmental requirements. Potential applications include architectural coatings, automotive interiors, consumer products, and industrial components.
“By bringing together our strengths in polymer science with Heraeus’s expertise in advanced materials, we can accelerate solutions for safer surfaces,” said Sucheta Govil, Covestro’s chief commercial officer. “This collaboration aligns with Covestro’s focus on delivering coatings that meet performance needs while addressing health and sustainability challenges.”
The companies added that the research effort will explore scalable approaches for incorporating antimicrobial properties into commercial coatings systems. Covestro said the partnership underscores its strategy of working with external innovators to advance next-generation coatings technologies.
