Part two of this series discusses the science behind
infrared reflective pigmentation technology. In part three of the series, the
application of the technology will be reviewed.
Sunlight is composed of three classes of
electromagnetic radiation: ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near infrared
(NIR). The energy composition of sunlight that reaches the ground is called
terrestrial solar irradiance. The wavelength of electromagnetic energy in this
range is expressed in microns (one millionth of a meter) and nanometers (one
billionth of a meter).
