Steelpaint secured an additional Network Rail approval, expanding the use of its Stelcatec moisture-cure polyurethane coating system to newbuild rail infrastructure projects in the United Kingdom.

The certification confirms the system meets Network Rail specification NR/L3/CIV/039 for new steel structures, allowing it to be specified for bridges, stations, platforms and other rail assets from initial construction. Stelcatec was previously approved for maintenance and refurbishment applications.

With both approvals in place, the system can now be used across the full lifecycle of rail infrastructure, from fabrication through long-term asset protection.

“This second approval is a major step forward for us in the UK rail market,” said Frank Müller, director at Steelpaint. “With the newbuild certification in place, it can now be specified from the outset on new rail structures, simplifying corrosion protection strategies and reducing long-term maintenance burdens.”

The one-component coating is designed for steel structures exposed to variable site conditions and does not require mixing. The approval was issued by SOCOTEC following additional testing.

“The certification process is deliberately rigorous,” said Andreas Engert, technical director at Steelpaint. “Achieving approval for both existing structures and new demonstrates consistency of performance.”
