A&WMA to Hold Conference and Exhibition in Detroit

PITTSBURGH - The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) will hold its 102nd Annual Conference and Exhibition (ACE) June 16-19, 2009, in Detroit, MI. The event is sponsored by General Motors.

“We are excited that this year’s conference is being held in Detroit,” said Adrianne Carolla, A&WMA Executive Director. “Although the city has obviously been affected by the challenges facing the U.S. auto industry, the theme of ACE 2009 is ‘Driving Environmental Progress,’ so what better place to gather and discuss climate change, new energy policies and alternative fuels? And with the uncertain economy and a new administration focused on environmental issues, it is more important than ever for environmental professionals to come to ACE to network and share their knowledge on the pressing issues of our time.”

ACE 2009 will feature a technical program with over 500 speakers, hundreds of exhibitors displaying the latest products and services, social tours and networking events, professional development courses taught by leading instructors, and a student program. The Keynote Program will include presentations by Gerard M. Anderson, President and Chief Operating Officer, DTE Energy; John D. Dingell, Congressman, Michigan’s 15th District; Christopher Flavin, President, Worldwatch Institute; and Beth Lowery, Vice President for Environment, Energy and Safety Policy, General Motors.

The conference will also feature the 39th annual Critical Review, titled “Remote Sensing of Particulate Pollution from Space: Have We Reached the Promised Land?” The review will be presented by Ray M. Hoff, Professor at the University of Maryland and Director of the Joint Center for Earth Systems, and Sundar A. Christopher, Professor and director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama, Huntsville.
