Dow Corning Experts Presenting at ASTM Symposium

Dow Corning Experts will present and discuss innovative solutions for building and construction sealants and adhesives at the ASTM International “Fourth Symposium on Durability of Building and Construction Sealants and Adhesives,” June 16-17, 2011, at the Marriott Anaheim, Anaheim, CA.

ANAHEIM, CA - Dow Corning Experts will present and discuss innovative solutions for building and construction sealants and adhesives at the ASTM International “Fourth Symposium on Durability of Building and Construction Sealants and Adhesives,” June 16-17, 2011, at the Marriott Anaheim, Anaheim, CA.

Dow Corning sealant and adhesive experts will be on hand to discuss and collaborate upon the latest information and innovations of durability testing, assessment and specifications for building and construction sealants. The scope of the symposium covers all building envelope, interior building, construction and civil engineering applications.

The following Dow Corning experts will present on a variety of key industry topics.

Andreas Wolf, Senior Scientist, Dow Corning Germany, will discuss the preliminary evaluation of a transparent structural silicone adhesive (TSSA), developed for point-fixing in glazing, which combines high transparency, strong adhesion performance, thermal stability and excellent weatherability. The transparent film adhesive is a heat curing one-part material that shows strong bonding to glass, metals, ceramics and even plastics typically without primer. The presentation is titled “Assessment of the Durability of a Novel Transparent Structural Silicone Film Adhesive for Point-Fixing in Glazing.”

Larry Carbary, Scientist, Dow Corning US, will report on the effects of glass bending on the durability of insulating glass units as measured by frost point changes and visual changes after aging in a bent condition. The study seeks to address an architectural industry desire to provide the unique and striking aesthetic effect of bent glass on building facades. The presentation is titled “Durability of Cold Bent Insulating Glass Units.”

Kelly Broker, Senior TS&D Specialist, Dow Corning US, will report the results of a study where four-sided SSG insulating glass curtain wall units were subjected to cyclic racking test methods in accordance with AAMA 501.6 testing protocols. Test results including sealant performance, sealant durability and correlation of sealant stresses with a Finite Element Model will be discussed. The presentation is titled “Racking Test Evaluation of Silicone Used in a Four-Sided Structural Sealant Glazed Curtain Wall System.”

Jinyoung Jung, AETS Professional, Dow Corning Korea, will provide a comparative evaluation of structural sealant glazing (SSG) sealants commercially available in Korea according to ISO and ASTM protocols. Currently, no standard specification or industry guideline exists in Korea for the use of SSG. The presentation is titled “Weathering Evaluation for Structural Silicone Sealants Available in Korea.”
