According to 43% of surveyed delegates at the opening session of the American Coatings Conference, legislation is the key driver for green technology. Responsibility for society followed at 31% and customer requests came in at 26%. When asked how important sustainability is to them, 49% of delegates said that it is important, 32% said that it is indispensable, 13% said it is nice to have and 6% said that it is just marketing hype. And when asked what the most important innovation would be, 49% of respondents said high-performance biobased resins, 26% said isocyanate-free coatings, 16% answered stir-in, easily dispersible pigments, 6% said a thermolatent hardener for rapid cure, and 3% answered a biobased crosslinker for PUR.
