SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be revising the methodology for estimating emissions from thinning and cleanup solvents used with architectural coatings. The revised methodology is based on a research project that was funded by CARB and completed in 2004.

A summary of the revised methodology is available on the CARB Web site: www.arb.ca.gov/coatings/arch/thinningandcleanupcalc.pdf. The complete research report is also available at www.arb.ca.gov/research/abstracts/00-314.htm.

In 2005, CARB conducted an Architectural Coatings Survey. CARB staff is currently processing the data from the survey and will be compiling the data in a survey report. The survey report will include estimated emissions from thinning and cleanup solvents that are associated with architectural coatings based on the revised methodology mentioned above.
