ORLANDO, FL - A call for papers has been issued for Smart Coatings 2011, set to take place Feb. 23-25, 2011, in Orlando, FL. Coatings, polymers and related materials continue to be an innovative area in research and technology. Smart materials (adaptive, responsive, bioactive, photonics and nanotechnology-based coatings) are becoming the norms of the industry.

The objective of this symposium is to provide a forum to stimulate new ideas, present and discuss fundamental and applied science of smart coatings, identify critical problems, provide promising solutions, and assess possible roadmaps.

Contributions are sought in all areas of smart materials, including, but not limited to: stimuli responsive coatings such as coatings functioning as sensors, thermochromic materials, photo-responsive coatings and pressure-responsive coatings; nanotechnology-based coatings such as self-assembling polymers and coatings, photonics, molecular electronics, and drug delivery and imaging; smart materials and coatings such as self-repair and self-healing coatings, hybrid inorganic and organic coatings, conductive organic materials, thin-film depositions, and color-shifting coatings; and bioactive materials and coatings such as antimicrobial materials, biosensors, molecular diagnostics and antifouling coatings.

The submitted full papers will be published in the American Chemical Society Symposium Series. The deadline for abstract submission is August 20, 2010. Submit abstracts to jbaghdach@emich.edu.
