Coatings Adhesion, Surface aspects and Coatings Defects:
In this course, we will be discussing the basics of coatings adhesion, how the substrate surface affects coatings properties, and coatings failures. Coatings failures will be examined in what they are, what causes them and how to prevent them. For coatings adhesion, we will discuss how coatings properties will have an effect on coatings adhesion, particularly looking at coatings/substrate phenomenon. The focus will be how coatings formulation can help mitigate these issues.
Instructor Michael Praw:
Born and raised in Montreal, Mike now lives in the Houston area. He retired after 39 years doing coatings formulation, 18 years with coatings companies and 21 years with raw material suppliers. He has spent most of his career helping people formulate and managing labs. He has degrees in Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, as well as an MBA. Mike is Past President of The Detroit Society for Coatings Technology and the Piedmont Society for Coatings Technology and has also served on the board of the Southern Society for Coatings Technology, The Chicago Society for Coatings Technology, and the Great Lakes Coatings Conference. He writes the “Formulating with Mike” column each month in Paint and Coatings Industry (PCI) Magazine. He has multiple patents and has won such prestigious awards as best /presentation paper at The Western Coatings Show, The Eastern Coatings Show, and The Waterborne Symposium. Mike is a veteran of the Canadian Army where he served for 15 years in the infantry.
