Sun Chemical of the United States will boost its share of the world ink market from 30 to 36% with the acquisition of Coates.

LONDON — Sun Chemical Corp. of the United States will boost its share of the world ink market from 30 to 36% with the acquisition of Coates, the global ink-manufacturing division of TotalFina.

That is one of the developments reported in World Inks File 1999-2003, a study published by DMG Business Media and Market Tracking Inter- national. Sun Chemical’s pending acquisition of Coates is one of the latest in a series of deals that is bringing about a rapid consolidation of the worldwide ink industry, the report’s publishers say. The trend is being driven largely by low profit margins, industry overcapacity and mature patterns of ink consumption, the report concludes.

The study is offered at a price of 999 English pounds from Market Tracking International Ltd., 7 Archway Business Centre, Wedmore Street, London N19 4RU, U.K.; phone +44 (0)171 263 1365; fax +44 (0)171 272 8525. More information is available from Jamie Talmage at j.talmage@marketfile.co.uk.
