BASF Comments on Potential Sale of Coatings Business

BASF has provided Paint & Coatings Industry (PCI) Magazine with a statement regarding recent reports that the company is evaluating a sale of its global Coatings business.
Daniela Rechenberger, Corporate Media Relations at BASF, shared the following comment with PCI:
“As already mentioned during our Capital Markets Day in September 2024, we will explore strategic options for our Coatings business overall. This will include exploring a straight sale and JV options (e.g., with a BASF minority stake) etc.
As recently communicated, we are approaching the market to explore strategic options for the remaining Coatings activities. This means that discussions will be held with interested parties, and we are open to the outcome. It is too early to indicate what direction this may take. The intention is to explore strategic options for the remaining Coatings activities in one package.
There is high interest in the market – from strategic buyers, from private equity and from consortia.
Please understand that we generally do not comment on market rumors and do not provide details about individual process steps.”
This response follows initial coverage of the reported divestment process, which includes statements from Bloomberg, Reuters, European Coatings Journal, and Der Aktionär. Read PCI’s full original story here.
