Arch Chemicals Inc., Norwalk, CT, announced that it has established sales-support and technical-service operations for wood-coatings products in China, in a move related to a growing coatings business in the country, the company said. The operations in Suzhou, 50 miles from Shanghai, will provide sales support, technical support and local distribution for the company's range of industrial and retail products for a variety of wood applications. The coatings center will consist of an on-site technical center and color lab, and offsite warehouse facilities. Arch, citing recent trade figures from various U.S. government sources, said China has become the single largest exporter of furniture to the United States, with annual exports of between $2 billion and $3 billion. China is also the largest exporter to Japan, and second to Europe behind the Eastern European countries, the company said.
