Silicon Carbide Whiskers for Exceptionally Tough Polymeric Coatings
At Tuesday morning’s session at CTT, Tom Quantrille,
Advanced Composite Materials, LLC, presented a paper on the use of silicon
carbide single crystals, also known as “whiskers”, for use in the most
demanding polymeric coatings. The combination of the very high modulus of these
whiskers, their morphology and the novel surface chemistry provides a step
change in performance and delivers the toughest, most resilient polymeric
coatings possible.
