BASF will phase out production at its Batavia, IL, site and transfer it to existing facilities in New Jersey, Alabama and North Carolina by year's end.

"By closing the Batavia site and transferring production to other facilities, we will further improve productivity and reduce the complexity of our manufacturing operations," says Tom Hoenle, director of BASF's Industrial Coatings business. "To ensure that we remain competitive in the coil coatings and industrial coatings markets, we are continually evaluating our manufacturing operations with an eye to improving efficiency and productivity."

Approximately 80 positions will be eliminated at the Batavia site. After decommissioning, the facility will be put on the commercial property market for sale as an industrial site.
