AkzoNobel announced its intention to close manufacturing sites in Wapenveld, the Netherlands, and Machelen, Belgium, and consolidate production at other regional facilities. The move is part of a multi-year industrial transformation program aimed at reducing complexity and improving operational efficiency.
The planned closures follow previous announcements regarding three sites in Europe and Africa and recent streamlining plans for Montataire, France. AkzoNobel’s strategy focuses on investing in anchor sites that offer greater scale and efficiency to enhance competitiveness and support sustainable growth.
Recent investments aligned with this strategy include upgrades at the aerospace coatings site in Pamiers, France, and new research labs in Sassenheim, the Netherlands.
The intended closures are subject to consultation with local employee representatives.
