New Products: Winter 2000

November 7, 2003
Winter 2000 Vol. 2 No. 1

Classifier Designed for Ultrafine Powder
The Alpine TSP classifier is designed for powder in the below 3-micron size range. Particle-size distributions can be modified by off-line classification, and products with extremely narrow particle-size distributions can be produced. All top removal parts make interior cleaning and product changeovers easy. Sharp fines separation results in minimal recycle and cost savings. The TSP classifier is available for feed rates from 100 to 1,200 pounds per hour.

Antioxidant System Prevents Discoloration
Irganox LM 91 antioxidant system has improved melt-flow characteristics and helps prevent discoloration in coatings. A blend of hindered phenolic antioxidant and phosphite stabilizers, it possesses a melting point of less than 907C and low melt viscosity. It is effective in polyamide, epoxy, acrylic, epoxy ester and polyester powder coatings.

Silicone Resin Improves Durability
Resin 1-0619 improves weather resistance and heat stability of powder coatings. For optimum film properties, coatings formulated with the 100% silicone resin should typically be cured for 30 minutes at 4507F, but individual formulations will determine specific cure cycles. The resin enhances adhesion, thermal stability and finish retention.

Vacuums Tackle Fine Dust
This line of 55-gallon, drum-top vacuums uses HEPA filters and Vactagon's prefilters to manage the fine dust in a powder coating environment. The ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene prefilter fingers are easy to maintain. The HEPA filters have a high efficiency rating with particles as small as 0.3 micron. The units are wet/dry without changeover and are available in air and electric models.

Powder Booths Fit Individual Needs
This full line of powder coating booths includes PneuFlow conveyorized booths, FilterWall batch booths, FastTrack flat line and QualityCoat small part and sample booths as well as custom-engineered designs. Booths are constructed of heavy-gauge stainless steel to ensure durability. Aerospace acoustical linings on air plenums and fan housings reduce noise levels. Features include low air-to-cloth ratio, self-cleaning back-pulse filter systems, variable speed fan, control panel air conditioning and Dutch door operator openings.

Polyester Resin Cures at Low Temperatures
Fine-Clad M-8950 carboxylated polyester powder coating resin is designed to cure with TGIC at relatively low temperatures (to 250ºF). Good weather resistance and storage stability make it suitable for use on exterior and interior metal parts, automotive underhood parts and lawn and garden equipment. The resin remains free-flowing at 40ºC for up to one month, reducing blocking problems.

N-Butylpyrrolidone (NBP) as a Green Solvent to Replace N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) in Industrial Coating Applications

ON DEMAND: EPA published a regulation proposal around N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) in June 2024 to ban or limit NMP in many applications, such as paints and coatings and their removers. N-butylpyrrolidone (NBP) is a powerful and versatile solvent for a variety of industries looking for alternatives to substance of very high concern (SVHC)-listed solvents.
