One of the sessions at the European Coatings Congress focused on technologies emerging at the university level that may someday be used to formulate coatings. The Science Today – Coatings Tomorrow session featured six presentations. These included: Materials for the 21st Century: Can Carbon Come from CO2?, by Professor Bernhard Rieger of Technische Universität, Munich, Germany; Surface-Initiated Polymerization: A Toolbox Towards Functional and Responsive Polymer Coatings, by Professor Harm-Anton Klok of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland; Nanostructured Coatings from Controlled Free Radical Polymerization in Emulsion, by Professor Costantino Creton, ESPCI ParisTech, France; Feedback-Active Coatings for Corrosion and Biofouling Protection, by Professor Helmuth Möhwald of the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany; Functional Microgels as Smart Ingredients for Waterborne Coatings, by Professor Walter Richtering, RWTH Aachen University, Germany; and Bioactive Surfaces and Beyond: Coatings Formed from Responsive Nanoparticles, by Professor Andreas Fery, University Bayreuth, Germany.
