TOLUCA DE LERDO, Mexico - Axalta Coating Systems presented the Axalta Special Science Award during the Mexican Fair of Science and Engineering 2015, organized by the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (COMECyT). Berenice Perez and Tupak Hernandez, students from the Technological University of Nezahualcoyotl, received this year’s Axalta award in the field of natural and environmental sciences for their project, Polluted Soils Treatment with Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons by Biopiles Method.

The fair promotes scientific and technology projects created by middle, high school and university students in the State of Mexico. Projects submitted for the award were evaluated based on innovation, creativity, social impact, applicability, and teamwork by a group of experts in research, development, human resources, law, corporate affairs, and operations. The winners of the Axalta Special Science Award received a 15-day internship at one of Axalta’s research facilities in Mexico during which they will learn about processes involved in the creation of Axalta coatings.
