PowderTAG from TQC measures powder coating thickness up to 300 µm before and after cure on metal substrates such as steel or aluminum. A sophisticated combination of infrared and photo thermal measurements guarantees precise and repeatable coating thickness measurements. Because the PowderTAG’s pulse does not need to be perpendicular, and has a small measuring spot, it is useful for accurately determining the layer thickness on small, curved or hard-to-reach objects, even on wire frames or small corners and edges. A LED pointer assists in determining the correct distance and location. Due to the non-contact measuring principle, parts can be tested on a slow-moving line without damaging the coating. For higher line speeds, it is recommended to remove the part off the line via a bypass or stop the line.
By measuring the powder layer before the start of the curing process, necessary action can be taken immediately in the coating process. This leads to savings in powder consumption and minimizes rework or rejects. Proper use of the PowderTAG enhances quality levels and guaranties a reproducible production.
