BASF Coatings, in collaboration with Renault Group and Dürr, received the “Trophée de l’Industrie s’engage 2025” in the Innovative Process category for their Overspray-Free Application (OFLA) process. The award was presented at the “L’industrie s’engage par l’Usine Nouvelle” event in June 2025.
The OFLA process, also known as Jetprint at Renault, introduces a wet-on-wet, overspray-free, high-precision paint application method for two-tone automotive coatings. It has been implemented at Renault’s Maubeuge plant and enables mass production of two-tone vehicles in a single pass—reducing operational costs, energy use and material waste.
BASF Coatings contributed a specially formulated decor coat paint to meet the precision and automation demands of the OFLA system. Dürr’s EcoPaintJet Pro applicator and robotic automation deliver pinpoint accuracy without the need for masking materials.
“This technology delivers measurable environmental and economic benefits,” said Rachel Choo, vice president, global marketing automotive OEM coatings at BASF. “It supports our customers’ sustainability targets and economic goals.” According to BASF, the OFLA process achieves 100% paint transfer efficiency, reduces process costs by up to 70%, and lowers waste by 1.6 kg per vehicle.
The collaboration exemplifies a shift toward more sustainable manufacturing practices in automotive coatings.
