Finishers from a broad range of industries are expected to flock to the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis September 18-21 for POWDER COATING 2006, the conference and trade show designed to educate the end user on the value of a powder coated finish, how to improve products with powder coatings, and how to make manufacturing operations more productive and profitable.

The event will open with a conference program starting on Monday afternoon, September 18, which will include an introduction to powder coating, titled "Follow the Yellow Brick Road," as well as a custom coaters roundtable. Tuesday's conference sessions will cover powder coating aluminum extrusions, pretreating, energy savings, and outsourcing vs. in-house production.

Wednesday's conference sessions will be divided into three separate tracks. Track I will include presentations on adding e-coat to an existing powder line, developing a preventative maintenance plan, designing a powder environmental room, using powder coatings for wire fabrication, and developing active antibacterial powder coatings. Track II will cover topics such as job shop powder coating, ceramic oven panels, rack cleanliness and high-temperature-resistant powder coatings, while Track III will address gun movement technology, automated controllers, plastic media, powder curing and aluminum finishing. Conference sessions on Thursday will cover the topics of fast color change, heat-sensitive substrates, third party liquid to powder conversion, and curing.

The exhibition will open on Tuesday morning, September 19 and will conclude on Thursday afternoon along with the conference. This year's exhibition will cover more than 140,000 square feet of exhibit space occupied by nearly 200 exhibitors showcasing powder coating-related products and services. (See p. 23 for a preliminary list of exhibitors.) No conference sessions have been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to allow attendees more to walk the show floor and see powder coating systems in operation.

Attendees to POWDER COATING 2006 get a bonus this year. The Electrical Manufacturing Expo (EME) will be held in the Indiana Convention Center alongside POWDER COATING 2006. Sponsored by the Electrical Manufacturing & Coil Winding Association, this event will focus on the design and manufacture of wound electrical components and finished electrical parts.
