FTS Technologies, Flint, Mich., owners of the ATmaP™ (Accelerated Thermo-Molecular Adhesion Process) surface treatment technology, recently received a 2005 Clean Air Excellence Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. FTS Technologies, along with DaimlerChrysler, received the award based on the implementation of a pilot application on Dodge Dakota Wheel Flares. This initial application involved the complete removal of all adhesion-promoting primers, which typically contain a 90% chlorinated solvent content. This process eliminated all emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) and resulted in the elimination of 55,000 to 80,000 lbs of solvents from being discharged into the local Michigan environment through either air emissions or landfill sludge.
