Select Biosciences has announced details for this year’s Advances in Synthetic Chemistry conference. The conference will take place April 16-17, 2009, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Ciba, Basel, Switzerland, has reported that the company’s sales in local currencies were maintained at 2007 levels until late in the fourth quarter, where demand dropped sharply in many customer industries, notably plastics and coatings for the automotive and construction industries, as the economic downturn took effect.

Clariant has announced sales of CHF 8.1 billion for the full year 2008 compared to CHF 8.5 billion in 2007. This translates into a 1 percent growth in local currency and a 5 percent decline in CHF.

LyondellBasell Industries has taken steps to temporarily idle its low-density polyethylene units at Carrington, UK, and Fos-sur-Mer, France, into the second quarter of 2009. The Carrington unit has a nameplate capacity of 185 KT per year, and the Fos plant has a nameplate capacity of 110 KT per year.

The Dow Chemical Co. has declared a dividend of 15 cents per share, payable April 30, 2009, to shareholders of record on March 31, 2009.

RPM International Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, Carboline Co., acquired a 49-percent interest in its Chinese licensee, Carboline Dalian Paint Production Co., Ltd. (Carboline Dalian).
