COLOGNE, Germany – Representatives of the LANXESS Inorganic Pigments (IPG) business unit recently welcomed a delegation from Ningbo Chemical Park, one of China’s largest and most modern facilities, to its headquarters in Cologne, Germany. The meeting took place during the Ningbo Europe Week 2018, which is organized by the eponymous port and industrial city to promote economic cooperation with European companies that support sustainable industrial development in the city.
LANXESS is an example of this successful cooperation. At the Ningbo Chemical Park, the business unit IPG is operating the most state-of-the-art plant in the country for the production of iron oxide red pigments. The new Bayferrox 500 series of products produced in Ningbo are firmly established and now offered as regular sales products for the global market, including the yellowish pigment grades Bayferrox 504, 509, 511 and 522.
“Based on independent tests by leading paints and coatings manufacturers over the last 12 months, LANXESS has adjusted the products of its new Bayferrox 500 series according to its customers’ feedback. Final standards are now set, and all trial products are renamed as regular sales products,” said Holger Hüppeler, Head of the LANXESS Inorganic Pigments business unit.
The product series completes the comprehensive Bayferrox portfolio. Proven color consistency together with tight product specifications ensure the reliable use of the new yellow-shade red pigments in all common coatings systems on a long-term basis. Thus, LANXESS is able to offer customers the entire spectrum of red iron oxide pigments.
Strict on-site quality management – starting with the inspection of the raw materials and employed throughout the entire production process – reliably ensures compliance with extremely narrow product specifications in accordance with the global quality standard applicable to all Bayferrox pigments worldwide.
At the beginning of 2018, LANXESS’s Ningbo site has also received the National Green Plant Certificate by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People’s Republic of China. The quality seal is awarded to only one thousand best-in-class companies that have demonstrated a clear commitment to sustainability in their respective industries through the use of cutting-edge technology and environmentally friendly practices in their production facilities.
“Thanks to the support of the Ningbo Chemical Park, LANXESS, with the construction of our state-of-the-art production plant, was able to demonstrate how clean and future-proof production of synthetic iron oxide pigments can be achieved against the background of consistent enforcement of high environmental regulations in China,” said Hüppeler.
