The Sherwin-Williams Co. is a global leader in coatings and related products. Selling to professional, industrial, commercial and retail customers, Sherwin-Williams branded products are sold in over 5,100 paint stores in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Major brands include Sherwin-Williams®, Valspar®, Dutch Boy®, HGTV HOME® by Sherwin-Williams, Krylon®, Minwax®, Cabot® and Thompson’s® Water Seal®, which are sold through mass merchandisers, home centers, hardware stores, independent retailers, automotive retailers and industrial distributors.
Sherwin-Williams is organized into three segments: The Americas Group, the Consumer Brands Group and the Performance Coatings Group. The Americas Group operates the Sherwin-Williams branded coatings and supplies in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The group also manufactures and sells architectural and industrial coatings in Latin America. The Consumer Brands Group sells the company’s branded and private-label products through retailers in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and China. The Performance Coatings Group sells coatings and finishes to customers in the general industrial, industrial wood, protective and marine, coil and extrusion, packaging, and automotive coatings market. This group operates in over 120 countries.
Sherwin-Williams reported total consolidated sales for 2018 of approximately $17.53 billion. It is estimated that approximately 80% of sales, or about $14.03 billion, represents coatings sales, with the remainder being related products, including wallcoverings, floor coverings and application supplies. The Americas Group reported net sales of $9.63 billion for 2018, which represents an increase of 5.6% compared to 2017. This accounts for 55% of 2018 total sales. Comparable store sales, sales of stores open more than 12 months, increased 5.1% during 2018. The Consumer Brands Group posted net sales of $2.74 billion in 2018, an increase of 27.1% compared to 2017. This accounts for 16% of 2018 total sales. The Performance Coatings Group reported net sales in 2018 of $5.17 billion, an increase of 39.4% compared to 2017. Performance Coatings Group sales represent 29% of total sales for 2018.
