The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has released three updated documents describing test procedures and performance requirements for organic coatings applied to aluminum extrusions and panels for architectural products. All three are now available for purchase.

  • AAMA 2603-22: Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Pigmented Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels (with Coil Coating Appendix).
  • AAMA 2604-22: Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for High Performance Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels (with Coil Coating Appendix).
  • AAMA 2605-22: Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Superior Performance Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels (with Coil Coating Appendix).

"The updated 2022 version of AAMA 2603, 2604, and 2605 have significantly defined the new technologies of pretreatment on aluminum in section 7.2.2 according to the chemical supplier's recommendation," said Carl Troiano, chair of the FGIA AMC finishes committee. "Some of the other significant changes are section 8.9 on weathering and section 8.4 for peel adhesion. These documents are the guidelines for aluminum finishes on organic coatings on aluminum, and will help guide architects and specifiers in their choice of choosing the correct type of performance for their specific projects."
