Nouryon, a global specialty chemicals leader, announced that its nine manufacturing sites in Brazil are now powered with electricity solely from renewable energy sources, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy. Nouryon has 60 manufacturing sites around the world with nine in Brazil, which represent 25 percent of the Company’s total electricity usage. This achievement is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

As part of its long-term carbon management strategy, Nouryon is continuing to explore opportunities to transition other sites in its global manufacturing network to electricity from renewable sources as well. 

In 2021, Nouryon achieved carbon neutrality¹ at five sites in Brazil operated by Nouryon (Imperatriz, Eunápolis, Três Lagoas (2) and Jacareí), as part of the company’s Integrated Manufacturing Model, offering on-location sodium chlorate and/or chlorine dioxide production.

Nouryon was awarded a Platinum rating by EcoVadis for its sustainability performance in 2022. The company aims to reduce its absolute Scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019, and aspires to be a net-zero organization by 2050.
