Tech Etch, a manufacturer of precision-engineered thin metal components, flexible printed circuits, and EMI/RFI shielding announced significant accomplishments in waste reduction and sustainability initiatives at its Plymouth facilities. With a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and resource management, the company has successfully implemented measures that have yielded remarkable results and underscore its dedication to a greener future.

Previously confronted with the daunting task of minimizing the amount of general waste sent to local landfills, Tech Etch has risen to the challenge through a concerted team effort and the implementation of a comprehensive waste management strategy. As a result, the company has achieved an impressive landfill waste reduction of 85%, significantly surpassing its initial goal. Today, only 5% of general waste ends up in landfills, while the remainder is expertly re-purposed for beneficial use

The company's diligent efforts have already prevented 200 tons of waste and 8,400 gallons (about the volume of a large U-Haul truck) of oil from ending up in landfills. By transforming waste into a valuable resource, Tech Etch now generates 110 MWh of renewable energy, enough to power ten suburban homes for an entire year. This achievement not only demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainability, but also highlights its ability to create innovative solutions for waste management.

“As the Facilities Manager and an Employee Owner, I take great pride in being affiliated with Tech Etch. We are very proud of our accomplishments in providing our community and customers with quality service, products, and environmental stewardship. Being a leader in the community means more to us than just a location. In the last 18-months we have completed projects that have led to reducing our carbon footprint by approximately 2800 tons annually. Future projects being considered are going to further reduce our use of natural gas and electricity while providing us the ability to grow as a company,” said Facility Manger Gary Worsman.

Aligned with its core values and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities, Tech Etch has made substantial infrastructure improvements to enhance energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

The company has successfully completed several major projects to date, including the conversion to energy-efficient LED lighting, resulting in a brighter working environment and reduced utility bills. Furthermore, a new roof design, featuring a white membrane instead of black, has significantly lowered temperatures inside one of the facilities by up to 5 degrees Fahrenheit. This design also includes improved insulation to minimize heat loss and enhance cooling efficiency.

Tech Etch is committed to maintaining its momentum in sustainability efforts. The company has ambitious plans for 2023, including a front 30% roof replacement, the installation of ten new rooftop units, and the introduction of two new high-efficiency boilers. These projects will further enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and ensure the company remains at the forefront of sustainable practices in the industry.

Tech Etch passionately believes that responsible resource management and sustainability are essential for a better future. By continually investing in environmentally friendly projects and embracing innovative solutions, the company strives to minimize its ecological footprint while maximizing operational efficiency and their commitment to their customers.
