Brenntag, a chemicals and ingredients distributor, announced being awarded the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification ISCC PLUS (Cert-DE143-33300393). Brenntag is one of the very first distributors globally certified for the full chain of custody for direct shipments and warehouse business for the first 9 out over 20 warehouses currently in scope. Brenntag is allowed to buy, sell and distribute mass-balanced-products directly or through these sites. The scope of the certificate includes the chain of custody options Mass Balance, Physical Segregation and Controlled Blending. 

After the certification of Brenntag’s Product Carbon Footprint data calculation method “CO2Xplorer” last year (Press Release Nov. 2023), ISCC PLUS now further underscores Brenntag's consistent dedication to environmentally responsible and sustainable business practices. Brenntag is now able to distribute more products that are produced by the Mass Balance approach. Mass Balancing enables fast reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by facilitating the allocation of green or circular feedstock to conventional products, which can be directly used without reformulation and are directly applicable within the same technical infrastructure, enabling a seamless transition to more sustainable value chains. So, more customers can now be supported in achieving their CO2e reduction targets and other sustainability goals.

The ISCC PLUS certification is a world leading, independent certification system for sustainable feedstocks like biomass, circular materials, and renewables as well as for the mass balance approach, a calculation-based method used to track in- and outputs of mass to a system like a warehouse or process, therefore making sure the chain of custody for the products is secured.  The certification was granted by DIN CERTCO, Gesellschaft für Konformitätsbewertung, Berlin, a TÜV Rheinland company.
