As we step into 2024, emerging paint and color trends are offering a fresh perspective on home design, emphasizing a shift toward creating spaces that embody both comfort and a connection to nature. This year's trends highlight earthy tones, warm neutrals, and a range of greens and blues, reflecting a desire for serene and sustainable living environments.

Fixr.com’s latest Paint & Color Trends Report reveals the insights on these trends for 2024, drawn from a survey of 71 leading interior design and home staging experts, aiming to guide homeowners in making informed decisions for their homes that align with contemporary design and the move towards natural aesthetics.

"In 2024, we will witness a harmonious blend of nature and sophistication in paint and color trends, embracing a palette that balances comfort with elegance. Earthy tones, warm neutrals, and thoughtful splashes of olive green and taupe are set to define this year's aesthetic, transforming homes into what resonates with our quest for sustainable, serene living spaces," notes Charlotte Granville, Home Remodeling Specialist at Fixr.com.

Earthy Colors: An Ongoing Trend

This year's trends underscore a prevailing preference for earthy tones, with 46% of design experts believing these hues to be the most popular in 2024. These tones are anticipated to be at the forefront of interior design color palettes this year, reflecting a desire for warmth, comfort, and a deeper connection to the natural world in our living spaces.

Nature-inspired greens and blues are also set to rise in popularity in 2024, further reflecting an ongoing desire for spaces that evoke tranquility and a connection to nature. In line with this trend, 32% of experts selected deep olive green as the most popular shade this year. This rich, earthy hue, reminiscent of natural landscapes and organic elements, points toward the broader trend of colors that evoke a sense of calm and sophistication, making it a versatile and appealing choice for a wide range of spaces.

Warm Neutrals Are In

A significant 41% of design experts believe that warm neutrals will be the most popular palette this year, highlighting a shift towards more understated, yet inviting hues. This trend ties in with warm white, which 48% of experts selected as the color of the year. This choice reflects a preference for a soft, adaptable, and versatile backdrop that can complement a variety of different design elements and styles.

Additionally, 28% of experts predict a rise in the popularity of taupe, a color that offers a sophisticated and versatile option for modern interiors, whilst adding some depth and dimension to the room by creating a contrast with the ceiling. These warm neutral colors show a tendency towards a desire for comfort, simplicity, and versatility in the home.

Natural or Raw Finishes to Gain Popularity in 2024

The fact that 60% of experts believe that natural or raw finishes will become popular paint textures and effects in 2024 indicates a trend of incorporating more natural ingredients and eco-friendly products in interior design. This could indicate a shift towards sustainability and a minimalist aesthetic.

These preferences could potentially be driven by an increased awareness of environmental issues and a desire for authenticity in living spaces, emphasizing the importance of materials that are not only visually appealing but also kinder to the planet.

Palette for Selling a Home in 2024

When selling a home in 2024, embracing warm neutrals for the interior can significantly enhance its appeal according to a majority of 81% of experts. These shades create a welcoming and versatile backdrop that allows potential buyers to envision themselves in the space. For exteriors, 49% of experts recommend sticking to whites as they can make the home appear more inviting and well-maintained, potentially increasing its curb appeal.

However, sellers are advised to steer clear of using bold colors such as red, lime, and yellow, as these may not resonate with a very broad spectrum of preferences and could inadvertently narrow the pool of interested buyers.
