Lamoral's Technology Powers Speedo at Olympics

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Speedo athletes found an edge with swimwear enhanced by Lamoral's Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating, helping them achieve multiple podium finishes.
An article published in Innovation in Textiles highlighted the groundbreaking nature of Lamoral’s DWR technology. Unlike traditional water-repellent treatments, which wear off with exposure to water and detergents, Lamoral’s coating bonds at a nanoscopic level to fabric fibers, creating durable, long-lasting water resistance. This technology modifies the fiber surface to form microscopic peaks, reducing the fabric's contact with water and minimizing drag. The coating’s hydrophobic properties not only boost performance but also extend the lifespan of the fabric, even after intense use.
For Speedo swimmers, this meant water beading off the suits instantly, allowing for faster speeds and less resistance in the water. "We’re always looking for ways to push the limits of performance," said a Speedo representative. "Lamoral’s DWR technology gave our athletes a real advantage in the pool."
Lamoral’s innovation has set a new standard in performance sportswear, with potential applications across outdoor and activewear industries, where moisture management is crucial.
