Perstorp, a global specialty chemicals company, is set to open a new site in Amsterdam as part of its strategy to enter the synthetic ester business. The company, which is a subsidiary of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad, will use the new site to serve the growing specialty fluids markets.
The decision to establish the Amsterdam site comes after Perstorp's acquisition of an ester plant located just outside the city. The company plans to begin manufacturing a new range of synthetic esters at the site in early 2025.
Perstorp's move into the synthetic ester business is part of a broader strategy to expand its presence in the specialty fluids markets. The company is specifically targeting the growing demand for synthetic fluids that offer sustainability benefits, such as enhanced operational safety and reduced fluid maintenance.
In addition to its focus on sustainability, Perstorp is also looking to achieve ISCC PLUS certification for the new site. This certification would allow the company to produce Pro Environment products with a reduced carbon footprint.
Perstorp's Vice President of Engineered Fluids, Dr. Valentina Serra-Holm, highlighted the company's plans to focus on underexplored and underserved application areas. This includes the specialty fluids markets, where Perstorp sees significant growth potential.
The company is also looking to leverage its existing portfolio of sustainable products, including its recently launched Synmerse™ DC cooling fluid.
Perstorp's CEO, Ib Jensen, emphasized the company's commitment to being a key collaborator and partner in the development of new technology applications.
The new Amsterdam site is expected to play a critical role in Perstorp's long-term growth strategy, as the company looks to become a recognized leader in the synthetic ester business.
