New Coating Course Aims to Close Training Gap

The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) announced the launch of a new training course, Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE): Application and Inspection, designed to meet growing demand for qualified professionals in the pipeline coatings industry.
The course provides foundational instruction in the application, inspection, and testing of plant-applied FBE coatings, including both single- and dual-layer systems. It was developed in collaboration with global experts and asset owners to reflect real-world field challenges and is aligned with industry standards such as NACE SP0394.
“This program is a direct response to the needs expressed by our industry partners,” said Jennifer Rogers, AMPP senior director of education. “Until now, there has been no standardized training for FBE application and inspection.”
Through classroom instruction, case studies, and hands-on activities, students will gain experience in raw material evaluation, pipe surface preparation, damage mitigation, sample testing, and proper handling procedures. The course is open to applicators, inspectors, QA/QC personnel, auditors, and asset owners, and no prior experience is required.
Upon completion, participants will earn 3.8 CEUs and meet the requirements for FBE Level 1 certification, with the exam included in the course fee. Sessions begin in June and will be offered in Houston, Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Nashville, and other global locations.
