Syensqo announced the opening of its new microbiology, ecotoxicology and biotechnology laboratory in Lyon, France. The 550 m² facility is the company’s largest microbiology lab and will serve as a global reference center for testing biodegradability and environmental safety across product development stages.
The lab will collaborate with Syensqo’s global network to enhance testing capacity, support product registration efforts, and improve speed-to-market. By integrating machine learning and advanced analytical tools, the lab supports biodegradable-by-design innovation for markets including beauty care, home care, agrochemicals, adhesives and materials.
Syensqo reported that the lab construction incorporated energy efficiency measures, resulting in a 35% reduction in power use and a 36% cut in CO₂ emissions. The company expects the lab to achieve GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) accreditation later this year and noted that its biodegradability testing capacity has increased tenfold compared to 2021.
“The lab strengthens our capacity to create safe and biodegradable solutions,” said Thomas Canova, head of research and innovation and renewable materials at Syensqo.
The facility was officially inaugurated June 12 in the presence of local authorities and customers.
