Zhejiang Chemetall Surface Treatment Materials Co. Ltd., part of BASF’s Coatings division, announced that its Pinghu site in China was recognized by the Economic Development and Ecological Environment Bureau in Pinghu Dushan Port for its sustainability efforts. The site, Chemetall’s largest production facility globally, has achieved 100% renewable electricity use through the purchase of green energy and the installation of rooftop solar panels.
Operational since 2022, the facility covers 2,500 square meters of rooftop solar panels and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,700 tons in 2025. The achievement supports Chemetall’s global goal of using 80% renewable electricity across all sites by 2025.
“At Chemetall, we have set ourselves an ambitious sustainability target for 2025, and contributing to a more sustainable future is a high priority for us,” said Frank Naber, senior vice president of Chemetall.
Evelyn Shen, vice president Asia Pacific at Chemetall, added, “We are committed to sustainability at Chemetall, and this is reflected across our entire value chain. Our customers and partners in the region can expect more from us as we drive the change toward a more sustainable future together.”
Chemetall is progressively implementing energy initiatives across its global network. In the Asia-Pacific region, its Singapore facility is expected to begin using solar power by the end of 2025, joining Pinghu and Melbourne, Australia.
